The TROX Christmas donation 2021 goes to the SOS Kinderdorf Hungary and to the PMD Foundation for the research and treatment of the rare Pelizaeus-Merzbacher syndrome. TROX supports both organisations with 2.500 Euros each. "2021 was a difficult year for very many people," says TROX Austria Managing Director Wolfgang Hucek. "Some have been hit particularly hard by fate. We at TROX want to help to give families, children and the sick a better future."

SOS Kinderdorf in Hungary

SOS Kinderdorf has been active in south-eastern Hungary since 1986, and since 2015 in Oroshaza, a town of almost 30,000 inhabitants. The city is an industrial centre in the middle of an agricultural region. The unemployment rate is significantly higher than the Hungarian average - many families suffer from the effects of unemployment and poverty. Almost 150 children are taken in by SOS Kinderdorf Hungary every year. Together with local organisations, SOS Kinderdorf forms strong partnerships to support children, adolescents and young mothers.

Barbara Osinger, SOS Kinderdorf: "Many thanks to our long-standing partner TROX, who supports us so reliably in our work in Austria and neighbouring countries."

PMD Foundation researches rare disease

Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Syndrome is a very rare disease for which there is currently no treatment. Those affected by this neurodegenerative disease lack the "messenger substance" myelin, which ensures that impulses in the nerve pathways can be transported quickly and purposefully via neurons. Sufferers are usually unable to walk, cannot articulate at all or only with great difficulty, and suffer from spasticity. The PMD Foundation has dedicated itself to researching this disease in order to develop treatment options.

"Some things can only be done if everyone sticks together. If this is true for anything, it is for research and research funding for rare diseases," says Marianne Bal of the PMD Foundation.
